Respected Chief Guest, Mr. Sheik Abdul Rahman IAS, Commissioner, Corporation of Avadi, Respected Management, Valliammal College for Women, Ms. Praveena, Principal, Valliammal Nursery and Primary School, Mogappair, learned faculty members, parents, representatives of the media, invited guests and my dear students, with great pleasure I warmly welcome you all to the 36 th Annual Day Celebration of this esteemed institution. VCW takes great pride as it has been thirty-six years since the visionary founder, Thiru. A.M. Paramasivanandam established this prominent institution and to our dear departed former chairman, Thiru.A.P. Maikandan and former chairman Thiru. A.M.Arivudai Nambi who lead the institution to such greater heights that it stands tall as one of the most pristine colleges in the neighborhood.

With the benign blessings of the presiding deities Paramananda Vinayagar and Sivananda Vinayagar, I take the privilege of presenting the 36 th  Annual Report of this institution of higher learning.

INDUCTION PROGRAMME

An induction programme for freshers was held on 5.08.2023. The freshers were welcomed with open arms. Rules and regulations were also explicitly explained to the new entrants with special emphasis on the Mission and Vision of the college followed by good wishes.

STUDENT COUNCIL INVESTITURE

The Investiture Ceremony of the Student Council was held on 28.08.2023. Ms. Rani Ravichandran, Counsellor, Greater Chennai Corporation administered the oath of office to the newly constituted council members.  Ms. R. Unnathi of III B.Com., took charge as the President of the Student Council.

PATRIOTIC SENTIMENTS

Hailing from an age-old tradition and value-imbibed country, we never fail to show our solidarity towards the motherland. Independence Day and Republic Day were celebrated on August 15th  and January 26th respectively with patriotic fervor and the true spirit of nationalism. B.Com., took charge as the President of the Student Council.

ACADEMIC EXCELLENCE

The involvement and commitment with which the students and faculty have worked over the years has paid rich dividends and this has made VCW the most preferred one among the pioneering institutions in the state. I take immense pleasure in listing out the accolades of our enriched faculty members, I am proud to announce that Ms. A.Vijayalakshmi was awarded doctoral degree and Dr. A. Arunambiga cleared NET this academic year. I am proud to inform you that 32 students brought laurels to the college by securing the top ten university ranks both at UG and PG levels. I take this opportunity to congratulate all those students and appreciate the praiseworthy efforts of all the staff members who meticulously worked hard and motivated the students to achieve academic excellence. COLLEGE FESTIVITIES

The legacy of rich tradition and culture is reflected in organizing festivals of various regions. Onam, Ayudha Pooja, Ganesh Chaturthi and Diwali, the festival of lights, Pongal the harvest festival was celebrated in an eco-friendly manner with great pomp and glory. B.Com., took charge as the President of the Student Council.

COMMUNITY- SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY

What you take from others, you must give back. Social reciprocation is one such duty that every individual and organization must carry out for the benefit of society at large. VCW never failed in performing its prime responsibility of fulfilling social commitments. B.Com., took charge as the President of the Student Council.

  • The students sent their best wishes through a campaign to the team for the successful launch of Chandrayaan 3 on its Lunar journey.
  • International Yoga Day was celebrated on 21.06.2023 to raise awareness of the many benefits of practicing Yoga.
  • As a part of “Kaithariku KaiKodupom” an exhibition of Handloom products was organized for creating a platform to help weavers to reach out to the society on 3.06.2023.
  • A campaign where the students took up an oath to segregate the waste and dispose of it properly was conducted on 19.07.2023.
  • The students conducted an Awareness Campaign against Drug Abuse on 4.08.2023.
  • An awareness campaign was conducted to uphold Social Justice commemorating Thanthai Periyar’s Birth Anniversary on 17.09.2023.
  • The World Language Day was celebrated on 21.02.2023.
DEPARTMENTAL BUZZ

The Departments have conducted innumerable events for students to commemorate various days of significance. Apart from actively participating in many Webinars, the faculty members have attended FDP’s, presented papers, published books and have organized seminars. All the departments had Industrial Visits to various Industries to gain practical knowledge. Faculty members have published meritorious research articles and have received patents. I am happy to mention their significant achievements here under. B.Com., took charge as the President of the Student Council.

Departments visited Industries for broadening the outlook of students with exposure to different workforces from different industries, Industries like Regional Fodder Station, Ponlait Dairy Products Ltd, Kaashiv Infotech, Hatso Agro Pvt., Ltd., Sree Jayaraj Soap Factory Private Limited to name a few.

Tamil Nadu Government Skill Development Corporation conducted a week long Faculty Development Programme Phase-II under the “Naan Mudhalvan”, Scheme our staff members, Ms.Shalini Selvaraj, Ms.L.Pooja, Ms.D.Rajalakshmi, Dr.S.A.Rupa Devi, Ms. R.ThamaraiSelvi, Dr. G.Gomathy, Ms.J.Sangeetha Lakshmi, Dr.Vidhyadharani, Ms.S.Sangeetha, Dr.P.Suguna, Ms.M.Girija and Ms.L.Elamathy, Ms.A.Jency, Ms.S.Santhi, Ms. P.Kayathri, Ms.C.Radhika, Ms.V.Shobhana Williams, Ms.P.Maheswari, Ms.R.Kavitha, Ms.M.Dhanalakshmi, Ms.S.Manjula, Ms.Kavitha Gopinath, Ms.S.Hemamalini, Ms.V.M.Sajitha, Ms.P.Menaka and Ms.Chelamcherla Lavanya, participated with great enthusiasm. The departmental activities are aplenty and capsuling it here will be an unfairness task, hence the accolades of the staff are given separately in the Departmental Activities.

DEPARTMENT OF TAMIL

The department as a part of 109th birthday celebrations of our founder Professor Aa.Mu.Pa, conducted short story writing, and singing competition, on 05.07.2023. B.Com., took charge as the President of the Student Council.

  • Dr. R.Padmini, Dr.K.Geetha, Dr. R.Vijayalakshmi, Dr. S.Bhuvaneswari, Dr.M.Arunamiga, Ms. A. Muthusivgami, Dr. P.Anitha and Dr. Tamilselvi and Dr.B.Uma Sankari attended an online FDP and published papers in peer reviewed journals between 25.10.2023 and 02.11.2023.
DEPARTMENT OF ENGLISH

A Poster Making Competition in association with Greater Chennai Corporation was conducted on the topic “Proud to be a Voter, Ready to Vote” on 10.10.2023. An Inter Departmental Oratorical competition was conducted on the topic: “Digitalizing Economy – Boon or Bane” on 20.01.2024.

  • Dr. T.V.S.Padmaja & Dr. Uma Rajmohan published articles in Journal Samdarshi UGC CARE Group I and 3 research papers with impact factor of 8.4267 in international Journal of English and Literature.
  • Dr.T.V.S.Padmaja & Dr. Uma Rajmohan published a book on “ Fundamentals of Literary Devices in English Literature” by Academics Guru Publishing House.
  • Dr.T.V.S.Padmaja & Dr. Uma Rajmohan participated in the Online Interdisciplinary Refresher Course on “Changing Perspectives in Pedagogy” conducted by Pandit Madan Mohan Malaviya National Mission on Teachers and Training from 7.8.2023 to 20.8.2023 and also attended 5 FDPs during the academic year.
  • Ms.Shalini Selvaraj, Dr R P Jeswill, Ms.A.Usha Martin, Ms.L.Pooja, Ms.B.Praveena, Ms.W.Nancy Hepzibah, Ms.B.Janani, and Ms.S.Nanadhini attended series of National Level Webinars.
DEPARTMENT OF HINDI

The department conducted a Story Telling Competition in memory of “Munshi Premchand” on the occasion of his birthday on 31.07.2023 and on the occasion of “World Hindi Day” an Essay Writing Competition was organized on 10.01.2024.

DEPARTMENT OF MATHEMATICS

The department conducted a workshop on Introduction to LATEX on 13.02.2024.

  • Ms. M.Aishwarya and Ms.T.Sindhuja attended a one-day International Webinar and a 5 day online FDP.
DEPARTMENT OF BIOCHEMISTRY
  • Ms. B. Thiripurasundari, Ms.L.Kanchana, Ms.A.Sheela, Dr.G.Gomathy, Ms.R.Revathi Nayagam, Dr.T.Lalithasree, Dr.S.Geetha and Ms.R.Thamaraiselvi have participated in the seven day National Level Virtual Faculty Development Programme in Thevanai Ammal College for , Villupuram from 20.12.2023 to 28.12.2023.
DEPARTMENT OF MICROBIOLOGY

The department organised a One-day Workshop MICROCOSM 2023 and conducted Competitions for school students on 12.10.2023.

  • Dr. C. Soundhari was granted a patent in April 2023 for her research work, “Novel compound for treating sensitive, isoniazid resistant strains and multidrug resistant Mycobacterium tuberculosis”.
  • Dr. C. Soundhari published 3 research papers in international journals.
  • Ms.N.Gomathi, Dr.G.Vidyadharani, Ms.Louis M.R. Lima Mirabel and Dr.S.Thenmozhi published research papers in International Journals.
  • Ms.J.Sangeetha Lakshmi, Ms.A.Pushparani and Ms.K.Nithya presented research papers in international conferences.
DEPARTMENT OF BIOTECHNOLOGY

The department organized a Quiz competition “Biobattle” for UG students on 31.07.2023. The Department also organized a Science Exhibition “Techtopia 2K23” on 27.09.2023.

  • Dr.K.Sowparthani, Dr.D.Sumalatha, published 2 articles in international Journals and published 3 articles in international Journals during 2023 and they also attended international conference.
  • Ms.S.Ezhil Malar, Ms.S.Sangeetha, and Ms.L.Divyalashmi attended workshops and FDPs.
  • Dr.R.Sumathy was granted patent on “Biodegradable Hexagonal Box used for controlled and Root-targeted fertilizer delivery” in 17.05.2023. She has also published 3articles in international journals.
DEPARTMENT OF COMPUTER SCIENCE

The department organized “Technofrenzy 2023” on the topic of Project management and software testing on 04.10.2023. The department organized a three-day workshop on Selinium Testing from 5.10.2023 to 7.10.2023.

  • Ms.M.Sivapriya, Ms.S.Josephine Arul Jothi, Ms.Chinnakkamma Devi, Ms.K.Sudha, Ms.P.Jeba Chirstybai, Ms.Girija, Ms.K.Sudha, Ms.L. Elamathi and Ms.V.Uma Maheswari participated in National Conferences, They also attended workshops and FDPs.
  • Ms.M.Girija published a book on Fundamentals of Artificial Intelligence in December 2023.
DEPARTMENT OF COMPUTER APPLICATIONS
  • Ms.A.Padmini, Ms.S.Santhi, Ms.A.Jency Ms.M.Megala, Ms.K.Arunadevi, Ms.D.Suganya, Ms.P.Kayathri, Ms. C.Radhika and Ms.D.Bharani attended national, international Faculty Development programmes, presented papers and attended Workshops.
  • Ms.A.Padmini published a Book entitled “Structure Query Language” in the Multispectrum Publications dated 27.06.2023.
  • Ms.K.Aruna Devi and Ms.D.Suganya published a book titled “Python Programming Basics” in February 2024.
DEPARTMENT OF COMPUTER SCIENCE WITH DATA SCIENCE
  • Ms.Shobana Williams presented a research paper in the month of January in the International conference conducted on 4.1.2024.
DEPARTMENT OF HUMANITIES

The department conducted an orientation programme on “Career Guidance” by Nithya Kishore, Early Career Advisor, ITM Centre for Excellence on 31.01.2024.

DEPARTMENT OF COMMERCE (GENERAL)

The department conducted poster making competition on 24.08.2023 and all the students actively participated. On account of International Artist Day, department conducted Art Buzz on 25.10.2023.

  • Dr.S.Anitha, Ms.M.Mahalakshmi have co-authored few chapters in the Book “Digital Technology- Method & Process” a Scopus indexed book published by Atomic Spectroscopy Press Ltd. in March 2024.
  • Ms.T.R.Vijayalakshmi published an article in Rabindra Bharathi University Journal of Economics -a UGC CARE Journal in November 2023.
DEPARTMENT OF CORPORATE SECRETARYSHIP

The department conducted a workshop on “Women Empowerment” in the month of September 2023.

  • Dr.M.R.Anuradha co-authored a book on “Indirect Taxation” in the month of February 2024.
  • Ms.N.Malini participated in a Three day national online workshop and presented research articles and attended FDPs.
DEPARTMENT OF BANK MANAGEMENT
  • Dr.J.K.Kalpana Devi published research article on Role of Artificial Intelligence in Global Finance an Overview in international Journal for Multi-Disciplinary Research in February 2024.
  • Ms.Maheswari published a research paper titled “ A Customer Awareness towards Cloud Kitchen and its Future” in January 2024.
DEPARTMENT OF COMMERCE COMPUTER APPLICATIONS
  • Ms.S.Leelavathi published an article in Rabindra Bharathi University Journal of Economics -a UGC CARE Journal in November 2023.
DEPARTMENT OF COMMERCE (ACCOUNTING & FINANCE)
  • Dr.K.Devika, Dr.Nijina Jose, Ms.V.M.Sajitha and Ms.P.Rekha participated in six day International FDP organized by Sathyabama Institute of science & technology from 12.09.2023 to 17.09.2023. They also published research articles in international journals.
  • Ms.V.M.Sajitha published a paper in UGC Care Group 1 journal – Journal of Management & Entrepreneurship in January 2024.
DEPARTMENT OF COMMERCE (MARKETING MANAGEMENT)

The department conducted poster making competition on 19.07.2023.

The Department conducted ED – Bazaar (Handmade items) cum exhibition on 14.09.2023.

DEPARTMENT OF COMMERCE (INFORMATION SYSTEM MANAGEMENT)

The department conducted an activity on the topic “E -Waste to Eco Art” on 11.08.2023. A short video contest was conducted on account of “Madras Day” on 22.08.2023. The department conducted a programme on “Logo Designing” on 16.09.2023. Department also organized an event on the topic “Logistic and Supply Chain Management” on 23.09.2023.

DEPARTMENT OF BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION
  • Dr. V. Nithyapriyadharshini published 2 research papers in Scopus indexed journals. Ms.M. Shobana, published research paper in UGC Care journal in August 2023. Ms.Rajeswari and Ms. S.Swarnalatha attended 5 day online FDP.
  • Ms.M.Shobana has completed Two NPTEL 8-week online courses titled “Human Behaviour” and “Research Methodology”, Cleared with ELITE.
DEPARTMENT OF ECONOMICS

The department conducted poster presentation on “Problem faced by Farmers in the Society” on 13.10.2023.

EXTENSION SERVICE UNITS
NSS
  • The Unit marked the International Yoga Day on 21.06.2023. volunteers received training and pledged to “Integrate and Encourage Yoga Through Life”.
  • On 26.06.2023, the unit organized a procession in observance of the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking.
  • The Unit in collaboration with the Greater Chennai Police’s Prevention of Crime Against Women and Children Cell organized an awareness program on 18.07.2023.
  • On 10.08.2023 the unit collaborated with the Greater Chennai Police to conduct a campaign focused on increasing public awareness about drug abuse.
  • The Unit in partnership with the Transplant Authority of Tamil Nadu (TRANSTAN), conducted an awareness session on organ donation on 11.08.2023.
  • The State Level Mega programme “Drug Free Tamil Nadu” was inaugurated on 11.08.2023 with the honourable Chief Minister administering the pledge.
  • To mark the 76th India’s Independence Day, the unit arranged Oratorical Competition and English Essay writing competitions.
  • The unit in collaboration with the MGM Cancer Institute, hosted a Breast Cancer awareness programme on 09.10.2023.
  • The volunteers joined hands with Lions International Chennai to take part in the Chennai Plogathon on 15.10.2023. The “Walk for Trash-free Chennai” at Marina Beach.
  • As a component of the Meri Mati Mera Desh Campaign, our college arranged the Amrit Kalsh Yatra on 20.10.2023. Students contributed rice, which was gathered in the Amrit Kalash. Subsequently, the Amrit Kalash was entrusted to Nehru Yuva Kendra in Adyar.
YOUTH RED CROSS UNIT
  • The unit collaborated with Biomicron Pharma to host an awareness programme on Poly Cystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS) on the occasion of World PCOS day on 01.09.2023.
  • Youth Awakening Day the birth anniversary of Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam was celebrated on October 15th with lecture sessions.
  • The unit hosted an awareness programme on PCOD, PCOS, fertility, and infertility nutrition on 10.01.2024, in collaboration with OASIS FERTILITY, Anna Nagar.
  • The Unit has collaborated with M-Power, an initiative of the Aditya Birla Trust, arranged a Mental Health Awareness Programme on 02.02.2024.
ECO CLUB
  • The Club in collaboration with “Mega Charitable Trust,” organized a fruit-bearing tree planting programme as part of “Plant a Billion Tree” project on 17.08.2023.
  • The Club arranged an “Eco-Friendly Ganesha Chaturthi” celebration on 16.09.2023. Students crafted eco-friendly Ganesha idols.
  • The Club organized an interdepartmental competition titled “Design a Cover Page for Magazine” on 15.02.2024.
RED RIBBON CLUB
  • The club organized a poster competition with the theme “Empowering Communities to Take the Lead” aimed at raising HIV/AIDS awareness among young students on World AIDS Day 2023 on 1.12.2024.
  • The club conducted HIV/AIDS awareness among the general public by organizing a human chain adorned with posters advocating “Empowering Communities to Lead” on 15.12.2023.
  • In collaboration with Subha Homeo Clinic, the club organized a program on 23.02.2024 to promote awareness on women’s health and provide information about homeopathy.
PLACEMENT

Valliammal College for Women had a successful recruitment session for the Academic year 2023-2024.Career Guidance Programmes like various skill development workshops, webinars and seminars were organized by the Placement Cell to upskill the students and to provide significant exposure to face the challenges in their career path.

Students were served with a palette of job opportunities mapping to their skills and qualifications through the On/Off Campus Drives and Virtual Drives that were organized. The skill set and diligence of the students have reaped around 802 placements in firms like Sutherland Global Services, TCS, Lemon Peak, Quintessence Business Solutions, Rinex Technologies, Mercflames Technologies, Cognavi India Pvt Ltd, and so on. Furthermore, from LINZ Technologies-ZOHO, Clarivet, Congruent Solutions offer letters are awaited.

Various Skill development programmes and Seminars were conducted Anew, Rooman Technologies, TCS NQT TEST, New Camp IAS Academy, Naandi Foundation’s Titan LeAP, QSPIDERS, Swins I Fosys, Valliappa Foundation Tech Mahindra and Magic Bus and students were trained for hands on experience.

CONCLUSION

Amidst the din of activity, it is the spirit of Valliammal College for Women that has a great thirst for excellence. The vision and drive of our management provide the platform for the entire team of faculty and staff in our venture of imparting purposeful education to the future hopes of society. I extend my sincere gratitude to the management for their never-ending support. I thank all the teaching, non-teaching, technical, and supporting staff, parents, and beloved students for their tremendous cooperation towards the common vision.
