   EVENTS  
Cultural activities identify the hidden talents of students through song, dance and other forms of fine arts. Cultural committee conducts various events through "Valliammal Cultural Academy". Every year, the committee conducts competitions in various dance forms, mime, singing, theme based skits to motivste the students. The committee identifies the unique talents in individuals and encourages them to participate in inter departmental and intercollegiate events.
 

STUDENT COUNCIL INVESTITURE

The Student Council Investiture was held on 5th of July 2014. Dr.P.T.Srinivasan Professor and Head, Department of Business Administration. University of Madras administered the oath of office to the newly elected Council members. Ms.Padmavathy of III BBM took charge as the President of the Student Council.
 

FRESHERS’ TALENT SEARCH – PRATHIBHA

Prathibha 2014 the Freshers’ Talent Search was conducted as an ice breaking event to make the young learners more accommodative to the environment and facilitate them to be imbibed as a member of the VCW fraternity. As a part of the celebration on stage events and off stage events were conducted. Many Television personalities judged the days’ events.
 

PATRIOTIC SENTIMENTS

Hailing from an age old tradition and value imbibed country nurtured by the benevolent hands of Mahatma himself, we never fail in showing our sovereignty and solidarity towards the Motherland and its festivities. Independence Day on August 15th and Republic Day on January 26th were celebrated with patriotic fervour. On the occasion of National Voter’s day on September 25th 3000 students created awareness among citizens to exercise their franchising rights. The students pledged their sovereignty by enforcing the right to vote. The college also held a campaign to acquire voter ID. Our girls also took a pledge to adhere to the Rules of Road Safety. The girls voluntarily extended their service in controlling the traffic during peak hours in the morning near the college’s vicinity.
 

ACADEMIC EXCELLENCE.

Famed to be on the cutting edge of academic brilliance VCW faculty leave no stone unturned. The faculty member Dr.R.Padmini and Dr.Lakshmi of the Department of Tamil acquired their Doctoral Degree this year. Ms.Subha Jasmine, Ms. Tejashree, Ms.Maheswari and acquired their M.Phil. degrees this year. We have our staffs Ms.Mitra Priya, Ms.Prita Davison, Ms. K.S.Kamalam clearing their NET exam.
I am also proud to inform that our students brought laurels to the college in the form of university ranks both at UG and PG levels. 388 students fetched top 50 University ranks out of which 32 students bagged top 10 ranks. I take this opportunity to congratulate the praiseworthy efforts of all the staff members who meticulously worked hard and motivated the students in reaching academic excellence.
 

ORIENTATION PROGRAMME.

Valliammal is a tradition imbibed institution and has its own set of values and ethics which have to be stringently followed. There was an orientation programme organised for all the parents of the new entrants in to the college and they were welcomed and apprised about the rules and regulations and the felicities available in the College.

DEPARTMENT OF TAMIL

The department of Tamil had conducted Founder’s endowment oratorical competition, Kavignar Kannadasan Essay Writing Competition, Pattammal singing completion. They also conducted a seminar, where Shri N.Selvaraj from London had given a lecture on “NOOL Theetam”. Ms.Gethha had published a book on “ Tholkaapia ooraikalil oovamai panppaaadu muraikal”. Faculty members, Dr.Padmini, Dr.P.Banumathy, Ms.K.Geetha Dr. Vijayalakshmi, Dr. K.Lakshmi Dr. Arunambika presented 16 papers at National an International levels.
 

DEPARTMENT OF ENGLISH 

The Department of English conducted a one day workshop on “English Language and its nuances” by versatile personality Mr.Sam Satyanathan. He taught the young learners the nuances of the English language, syntax and semantics which would help the learners to master the language.
As a part of Chennai Literary Festival 2014 organized by university of Madras, the department has conducted an intercollegiate Creative Writing Competition. Hundreds of students from various colleges participated. Dr. Armstrong and Dr. Claramma Jose acted as judges for the day’s event. Ms.Subha Jasmine and Ms.R.Kavitha presented research papers on “Reality of Transplantation and Psychological Metamorphosis in Bharathi Mukerjee’s Describable Daughter” and on Kamala Das’s “The Testimony of Waterloo” respectively Thirumalai Naicker College, Madurai. Chick Lit and Heroines of the Office in Varsha Dixits “Right fit Wrong Shoe” held in Annai Fathima college, Madurai. Dr. T.V.S. Padmaja and J.Uma Maheshwari published a paper on “Dalitism In Multifaceted Perspective” in Annai Fathima College, Madurai. Ms.R.Kavitha presented a paper on “Restoration of Self in Margaret Atwood’s “Lady Oracle” and Bharathi Mukerjee’s “wife” in MCC College. Ms.Sheba presented a paper on ‘J.M.Coetzee’s Disgrace as a postcolonial Mirage” at Soka Ekeda college.
 

DEPARTMENT OF HINDI

The Department organized a workshop on “Importance of Hindi Translation” on 7th November 2013 Dr. Vasudevan, Senior Hindi officer, AG Office, conducted the workshop. Dr. M. Kalarani presented a poem on “Nature” on the occasion of World Hindi Day Celebration organized by Tamil Nadu Hindi Academy on 10th January 2014. She also presented a paper on the topic ‘Hindi Sevak: Rukmajirao Amar’ at a National Level Seminar organized by Presidency College, Chepauk, Chennai on 24th January 2014.
 

DEPARTMENT OF MATHEMATICS

Faculty member Ms. Purnima Harinath Presented a paper on “Fuzzy butterfly graph and its properties” in NCMTA 2014 conducted by Department of Mathematics, SRM University, Kattangulathur.
 

DEPARTMENT OF LIFE SCIENCES

The department of Life Sciences has conducted a National Level Seminar on “BIOSOLUTIONS 2K14 Connecting Science and Career” on 15th February 2014. The seminar was inaugurated by Dr.G.Adhinath Reddy Chief Research Officer &Head, Department of Pharmacology, Siddha Central Research Institute, Chennai The students and research scholars from all over the Nation presented papers and posters on various topics. The seminar concluded with the valedictory function addressed by Sivakumar Venugopal, Head, Sachika Institute of Biomedical Technology (Division of CPC Diagnostics Pvt., Ltd., Chennai). .
 

DEPARTMENT OF BIOCEHMISTRY

Ms B. Thirupurasundari and Ms. Kancha participated in the National Level Seminar? ”Life Style Disease” cause and prevention organised by D.G. Vaishnav College. Ms.B.Thirupurasundari presented a paper on the “Role of B-HCG in pregnancy” in the Seminar. Ms R.Thamarai Selvi and Dr.P.Kalaiarasi participated in a one-day State level Seminar “Trends in Biochemistry – Past, Present and Future” conducted by Justice Basher Ahmed Sayeed College for Women Chennai on 8th January 2014.
 

DEPARTMAENT OF MICROBIOLOGY

 The faculty member Ms. A.Rekha participated in the "National level Seminar-Regional Rural Science Congress" jointly organized by Indian Science Congress Association (Chennai Chapter) & SRM University held on 12th and 13th December, 2013 at SRM University Kattangalathur. She also presented a Paper on "Studies on the influence of collagen Structural Stability" and Ms.J.Sangeetha Lakshmi attended the same as the delegate.
 

DEPARTMENT OF BIO TECHNOLOGY

 The faculty member Dr. K.Sowparthini, Presented a paper on “Invitro antibacterial screening of ethyl acetate entophytic fungi isolated from phyllanthusamarus against pathogenic bacterial strain” in National conference conducted by Meenakshi Academy of Higher Education and Research. Ms. D. Sumalatha also presented a paper “In vitro antioxidant and anticancer activity of SYZYGIUM AROMATICUM against HT29 colon cancer cell lines”. Ms.D.Monisha Presented a Review Paper “Agro Waste produce nanofibres for probiotic encapsulation “in National conference conducted by Hindustan College of Arts and Science on 28th January, 2014. Dr. K.Sowparthini, D. Sumalatha, P. Rajakumari,S.Ezhil Malar Participated in International conference on Vector borne Disease-Combat and Cntrol conducted by Justice Bhasheer Ahmed Sayeed College for women, Chennai, on 22nd and 23rd of January, 2014.
 

COMPUTER SCIENCE (SHIFT I & II) & APPLICATIONS

Department of Computer Science (Shift I & II) and Computer Applications organized a departmental seminar, “NOSQL”, on 19th September 2013. Mr. Kannan, Application Architect and Technical Board Member, Wisen Technologies Pvt. Ltd., addressed the participants on how to manipulate “Big databases without using SQL statements” and advantages of “NOSQL”. On 7th February 2014, the Departments conducted a seminar on “Disruptive Technologies”, by Image Infotainment. Mr. Jainaresh, Head, ICAT College of Multimedia addressed the gathering on how “Disruptive Technology” had been widely used and preferred.
 

DEPARTMENT OF COMPUTER APPLICATIONS

DEPARTMENT OF COMMERCE(S-I)

Humanities conducted a forenoon session on “Opportunities in Banking Sector” addressed by guests from Shakthi Academy, Chennai. Mr. J Balajee Course Director & Mr. S Parthasarathy Assistant Professor SRM University gave a note on Career opportunities available in the Banking sector to the final year students. Some tips on how to apply for Bank exams on-line and quick way to solve analytical problems in the exam were also discussed during the Seminar.

Department of Commerce organised a seminar on 9 essential Soft Skills that employees look for in the employees. The Seminar was addressed by Dr. Raman Subramanium Director, Indian Institute of Learning and Management New Delhi. Dr.V.Surekha, A.Sagaya Johnsi Rani, S.Anitha, G.Vanitha, T.R. Vijayalakshmi, S.Kaleeswari, R.Priya presented research papers in the international conference organized by Brahma school of Business Namakkal on 19th October 2013.
 

DEPARTMENT OF CORPORATE SECRETARYSHIP

Faculty members Ms. N.Malini participated in a workshop on “Introduction to Data Analysis”, organized by the Department of Commerce University of Madras. Ms.S.Geetha had also participated in the workshop on “Structural Equation Modeling”, organized by the Department of Commerce, University of Madras and sponsored by the madras university commerce alumni association (MUCAA). Ms. N.Malini, Ms. Dhanalakshmi & Ms.S.Geetha had presented papers at Brahma School of Business Nammakkal, on 19th October 2013.

Ms.J.K.Kalpana Devi presented a paper on “A study on Employees” motivational factors in IT Industry” and “Strategic Human Resources Management” Ms.Manju, Ms.Kavitha Gopinath and Ms.Maheswari also presented papers in a Seminar.
 

DEPARTMENT OF COMMERCE (COMPUTER APPLICATIONS)

Ms.S.Leelavathi, Ms.S.Pravina and Ms.M.Sankari presented research paper on Merger and Acquisitions’ of Indian Companies in the International conference organized by Brahma school of management, Nammakal on 19.10.2013. Ms.S.Pravina, attended a one day workshop on Introduction on Data Analysis organized by Department of commerce, university of madras on 13.11.13.
 

DEPARTMENT OF COMMERCE (SHIFT II)

The department organised a seminar on 6th August 2013 on the topic “Employability in Stock Exchange “.the chief guest Mr. Karthikeyan from the Bombay stock exchange gave a lecture and explained the qualities to be developed by students to outshine in their career.The department organised a seminar on 11th February 2014 on the topic “Interview Management “. The Ms. Molly Grace, Associate General Manager, HCL ltd., gave a presentation on the importance of handling interviews with optimism and diligence.
The faculty members presented research papers in one day State Level Seminars on “Changing Face of Indian Financial System” organized by the Maharaja Arts and Science College held at Coimbatore on 4th October, 2013. The faculty members Ms. Freeda Simon, Preeta Davidson, S.Subhashini, Ms.S.Geetha, Ms. Selva Soundari, Ms.Mahalakshmi and Ms. M. Geetha presented research papers on “Food Adulteration and its Problems”, “Impart on Indian Financial System” “E-Commerce and Consumer Protection”, and “Corporate Roles and Responsibilities’” in the national conference on consumer protections NCCP – 2014 organized by Citizen Consumer Club and kaamadhenu Arts and Science College, Erode on 14th February, 2014.Ms.Frreda and Ms.Mahalakshmi participated in the faculty development programme “Drona” 14 on 17th Ramakrishna mission Vivekanda College.

CELEBRATING CULTURAL DIVERSITY

Our College deep rooted in tradition and culture pays extreme importance to the values and festivities of the regions. Pongal being the harvest festival and thanks giving to the Sun God, is celebrated with pomp and glory, with bullocarts filled with traditionally attired girls filling the campus and the soul of the onlookers. Ganesh Chaturthi and Saraswathi Pooja are also celebrated with equal fervour and dedication where we satiate our home god an goddess.
 

CULTURAL EXTRAVAGANZA - TARANG

Bringing out the latent talents in all the young learners not only in academics but also in extracurricular activities too. Tarang a cultural fest where so many Off Stage events like handicrafts making, pencil sketching, adzap and the like were conducted. We had a host of scintillating On Stage events like various dance forms, variety entertainment and bridal makeup. Ms. Sreeranjani cine personality and various television personalities like Mr. Jaynth, Mr. Rafeeq and many more judged the various events.
 

OUR ROLE IN SOCIETY.

Swami Vivekanda’s Women Convention was attended by Dr.T.V.S. Padmaja and Ms.J.Uma Maheswari attended as delegates on the 23rd of January 2014. The College as a part of the 150th year of Swami Vivekanda welcomed the Chariot of Swami Vivekanda and honoured the Swami’s and Public when they visited the college during the occasion.

To support the Cause of bring solace and relief in the life of cancer affected patients who have lost their hair to chemotherapy, our college in support students and staff donated their hair for making wigs to Cancer afflicted Women Patients
 

EXTENSION SERVICE UNITS
NATIONAL SERVICE SCHEME

“Service to humanity is service to God.”A few units clubbed together to organise certain important issues in society like Alzhimers and Legal Awareness. On 21st September 2013, The NSS unit of the college in association with ARDSI organized an awareness programme on Alzheimer’s disease. Dr.R.Sathianathan, the famous psychiatrist was the chief guest and delivered the key note address. The students gave talk about dementia in Tamil and English. The students also presented a skit in English and a mime explaining about dementia. “Legal Awareness Programme” for college students on 21st August 2013 in association with Tamil Nadu State Legal Services Authority and District Legal Services Authority in SJH. Mrs.A.Kayalvizhi and Mr.G.Palaniyappan Judicial officers delivered a lecture on Women-Rights and Role of Legal Services. Mrs.Selvi, Advocate discussed about the violence against women in the society and what are the laws used against violence. Mrs.Girija Kumar Babu, social worker gave awareness to the students, problem faced by women’s in the society.

The NSS activity for the academic year 2013-14, commenced with “Awareness programme on Silk Mark” in association with Silk Mark Organization of India on 8th August 2013. “Chennai turns Pink” an awareness programme on breast cancer in association with West Cancer Research Foundation. The NSS volunteers participated in events organised on the 27th of December 2013 to celebrate the 150th birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda at The University of Madras on -31-08-13. The NSS units of in association with , Quaid-E-Millath and Ethiraj College in organized an awareness rally on Breast cancer and Madras School of Social Sciences in association with the An awareness rally on Young Women Abuse at The Marina Beach on 7th September 2013. The units organized an awareness programme on cervical cancer and asthma and allergy-myths and facts on 10th October 2013. The Corporation of Chennai in a 5-day mega medical camp organized by Government of Tamil Nadu. Ms.B.Thirupurasundari, NSS programme officer attended the 7 days orientation course organized by the University of Madras at the Empanelled Training Institution, MSSW. The NSS unit collected and donated nearly 8 bags of rice to Divine Hope for the Disable India, porur on 18th December 2013.
 

YRC ACTIVITIES:

The YRC unit organized “Legal Awareness Programme” for college students on 31st August 2013 in association with Tamil Nadu State Legal Services Authority and District Legal Services Authority. 21st of January 2014 YRC conducted an Awareness programme on common Infestious Disease in Chennai in association with Dr. MGR medical University. Dr.Mini Jacob, Dr.Mary, DR.Siva Sangeetha Dr.Thatchinamoorthy addressed various issues related to infectious diseases.
 

ROTARACT ACTIVITIES:

The students took a pledge to stick stringently to traffic rules and also helped in controlling traffic at certain pockets during peak hours. The volunteers also visited Guild of Service and distribute items like brush, paste, powder, pens and books to the lesser fortunate brethren and spend some quality time with them.
 

RRC ACTIVITIES:

RRC conducted an awareness on “Well being” a consultation programme in association with CIPLA pharmaceuticals on Skin, Hair and Nail on 20.01.2014 by Dr.Vanathi Stanley Medical Colleges
 

ECO CLUB:

Eco Club volunteers participated in various competitions conducted by Tamilnadu Government Dental College and Hospital on Environment Day celebration “Save the Earth” on 19th and 20th of June 2013. The volunteers won prizes in photography, Rangoli and Collage.

Eco club organized an awareness programme on “Stress and Depression”, on 28th January 2013. Dr.Nappinai and Dr.Arun Prasad, highlighted the points on how to overcome stress and depression.

 

SPORTING SPIRIT.

The College conducted 26th Annual Spports Day on 1st February 2014 Mr.ASaravanan Hon. Secretary General Tamil Nadu Handball Association was the chief guest. He has distributed prizes to all the winners of various Interdepartmental athletic events and games. We cleaved a path for ourselves in various intercollegiate sports activities. We have churned out numerous athletes’ we have Ms.Bharkavi who bagged the first place in the 5000 mts race and the 2nd place in the 1500mts. Our girls won the first place in the March Past in the A.L . Mudaliar Championship. We made an inedible mark in the yoga where our young learner K,Lavanya won the individual championship , Ms.S.Bharkavi & Ms.R.Vijayalakshmi won the second place Ms.R.Leeelavathy and Ms.Harini won the third and fourth place. Our girls Ms.A.Manju, Ms. Pavitra & Ms.Revathy also participated in the National Yoga Championship at Saveetha Engineering College and won the 6th and the 9th place respectively. We have Ms Lavanya, Ms.Manju and Ms Amrita won the first second and forth place at Gumminidi Poondi yoga meet. Ms.Asha and Ms.Kaleswari for Tenni Koit and Ms.Maheswari for chess won the second places respectively.
 

PLACEMENT REPORT

The college has a full-fledged Placement cell helps in moulding the students to meet corporate expectations and help them to be placed in reputed companies based on expected job profiles of each student. This provided by on campus and Off campus recruitment from industrial giants to cater to students job requirements.

The placement committee had conducted several seminars, programs on employability skills and campus drive in the academic year 2013-2014.On 22-8-2013 Mr. Vijaya Kumar Managing Director from India trust conducted a seminar on entrepreneurship development. Nearly100 students were selected for training. On 11-10-2013, Mr. Dinesh INFO MATIX conducted a CAREER guidance program which includes an interviews skills and spoken English classes, it was for all. On 12-12-2013, Miss. Amudha Vincor conducted a seminar on interview skills and body language for final year UG and PG students. On 13-12-2013, ED-EXCEL INDIA conducted a seminar on public speaking and resume building for final year UG and PG students on 16-12 -2013. On 7-1-2014, DVJ solutions conducted a training programme on Medical coder Training for final year life science students. On 9-1-2014, ANEW association conducted a seminar on employment for women for the first year students who have secured 70%.
